About This Edition

The 9th edition of the Sustainability Table Discourse Series convened at a pivotal moment, just five years from the 2030 SDGs deadline. With 842 participants and 15 global speakers, the summit marked a shift from ambition to execution, framing sustainability as Africa's most strategic economic pathway. Moving beyond awareness, STS 2025 emphasized measurable outcomes and highlighted the "Green Path" as essential for resilience, competitiveness, and shared prosperity across the continent.

Key Takeaway

"Africa must lead its sustainability transition on its own terms, adapting global best practices to the continent's unique institutional and developmental realities."

A key outcome of the summit was the reaffirmation of the Tripartite Collaboration Model, which underscores the alignment of government, business, and civil society as the engine for scaling sustainable development in Africa. Lagos State showcased how sustainability can be embedded into long-term sub-national planning, from climate-resilient infrastructure to transformed food systems.

STS 2025 also focused on mobilizing domestic capital to drive economic transformation, challenging reliance on external funding. The discussions highlighted the potential of local pension funds, insurance pools, and sovereign instruments to finance Africa's sustainable transition. By reframing sustainability as a macroeconomic opportunity, the series illustrated how aligned capital can support responsible industrialization, climate resilience, and high-quality job creation.

On the global stage, STS 2025 advanced diplomatic dialogue in preparation for COP 30 in Brazil. Diplomats from Brazil, Denmark, and the Netherlands shared insights on climate governance and circular economy models.

Beyond panels and plenaries, the event launched the STS monograph and documentary, chronicling the series' evolution and reinforcing its dual role as a think tank and action hub.
